Storylines

Here you will find a brief synopsis of the storylines within the Gundam Wing Series. For those of you who haven't seen the series, this will be rather new. Those of you who have seen the series, this is kind of a re-hash. The better storylines are in the character descriptions, but that is another issue all-together. So here we go:

Gundam Wing

Gundam Wing begins in the era of A.C. (After Colony - after the creation of spacecolonies inhabited by humans). War is constant on Earth, while the space colonies live in relative peace. The most of the wars on earth finally ended around 175 A.C. At this point, the Earth government established the "Earth Sphere Alliance" as a military power. This organization was to promote peace on Earth and throughout the space colonies. Unknown to the general public, the Alliance Military was only a puppet for the industrialist group, The Romefeller Foundation under the leadership of an organization called Oz.

In the name of peace, the Alliance's Military's army under Oz leadership, seized control of all space colonies and crushed all oppositions with robot-like fighting machines known as Mobile Suits. After two decades of oppression, a group of rebels within the space colonies decided to strike back against the iron grip of the Earth Alliance any further. With the help of the 5 scientists who first developed the mobile suits, the rebels created five super fighting mobile suit machines, known as Gundams. However, no ordinary pilots can control these machines due to their advanced technology. Therefore, 5 children with completely different backgrounds and personalities were adopted and trained from a very young age to pilot the Gundam mobile suits.

Their mission: destroy the Earth Alliance and any other threat to peace and freedom

Gundam Wing Endless Waltz

Endless Waltz is both the sequel and the prequel for Gundam Wing. It is set after the events on A.C. 195, where Earth has finally achieved peace. World Nation leader Treize Khushrenada has been slain and White Fang leader Zechs Merquise has been left for dead. In a time of peace, Gundams were no longer needed, and Quatre proposed the idea of the destruction of the Gundams. All the pilots agree, except for Wufei, who has disappeared with his Mobile Suit after the battle against White Fang. When the Gundams are collected and sent to a one-way trip to the sun, a crisis breaks out!

Relena Peacecraft, now deputy foreign minister of the Earth Sphere Unified Nation, is abducted during a diplomatic visit to the colony X-18999 at Lagrange point 3. Her captor is the sinister child of Treize Khushrenada, Mariemaia, heir to the Barton Foundation's business empire. Mariemaia plans to follow in her father's conquering footsteps, and hopes that the former Queen Relena will serve her as a propaganda tool. Without the Gundams, the 4 Gundam boys face an extremely difficult situation. But unexpectedly, Wufei appeares to be one of the rivals, working for the Barton Foundation. Zechs returns as a Preventer agent codenamed "Wind" or something to that effect, and winds up fighting along side the heroes after the return of their now updated mobile suit.

Character Descriptions:

These character descriptions have tons of spoilers in them, so if you haven't really seen the series (where have you been?), then you may want to avoid them and try one of the linked sites.

It should also be mentioned that these descriptions aren't meant to offend anyone, although they probably will. They are more than slightly one sided (towards Duo), but in the beginning they are rather acurate. The first part is general information taken directly from the series, the last half is personal opinion. Another thing to bare in mind is that the only people who will have in-depth descriptions will be those who "directly" effect the story. Some of the characters will not have direct descriptions, and some will be omitted almost completely for personal reasons. However, in the end we think they are rather entertaining, and a little informative. Press on the name to find the description:

Gundam: Wing Zero

Heero is a very unique person.He is most likely the best MS pilot. He's the one who saved the earth from the crashing Libra, back in AC 195. After Quatre had his run-in with the Zero System, Heero helped bring him back to life. He encouraged Quatre to keep looking for Trowa, and brought some of the sparkle back into Quatre's eyes.

He is a very emotional person. He rarely shows his feelings, but he does feel. During the Marymeia incident, he was torn within over the memory of accidentally killing an innocent child and her puppy.How sad. Several times during the war against Oz he let his instincts take over, protecting Relena Darlian when he knew it would be easier to let her die.

Heero is a young man who trusts his instincts, and is confident in his abilities. Yet only recently has he discovered that his life holds value. And he is more than a trained killer--he is a young man capable of bringing the world to its knees, either in violence or in peace.

Heero Yuy

Mobile Suit: Wing, Wing Zero, Heavyarms for one battle, and Epyon

The "lead" character known as Heero was originally our favorite of the Gundam pilots, which later became the lovable warrior Duo. His true name is unknown, which is the same with all of the Gundam pilots except Wufei and Quatre. But for his missions of revenge and destruction, he has been named after the martyred leader of the colonies. Raised by the scientist Doctor J to become a professional assassin, Heero was trained to be a ruthless killing machine, equally proficient in mobile suit piloting, personal combat, demolitions, and computer hacking. Though Heero's upbringing didn't quite manage to squeeze all the compassion out of his personality, he is still cold and manipulative towards his allies, and ruthless towards his enemies. And almost insanely careless of his own life. His strange reluctance to kill Relena throughout the series is the first step in Heero's gradual reclaiming of what little humanity a Gundam pilot can have.

Now the only really big problem with Heero is that he is rather, well, he's kind of a klutz. Sure he is the "professional assassin" of the group, but Duo, Trowa, even Wufei generally end up completing their missions with more efficiency. To be honest, his initial meeting with Zechs Merquise is what threw his timing off. After that, he became a little trigger happy, and just about anything that could happen to him did. Getting shot, breaking and resetting his leg, being blown up (several times), fighting while blatantly injured, having his mind tooled with by Wing Zero and Epyon, and a whole lot more.

Heero regains his rhythm towards the end of the series, right after piloting the Epyon actually, and directs each of the other pilots down the same path. The road to the destruction of both the White Tiger and Oz organizations, and the protection of the Earth. His crowing moments would be his mastering of the Zero system in Wing Zero, and (in our opinion) his forcing Quarte to pilot the Zero system in his Sandrock mobile suit. Both were directly involved in the victory against both Oz and White Tiger.

And to top it all off, Heero has the best fashion sense in the entire Gundam series.

Quatre Raberba Winner

Mobile Suit: Sandrock; for a while Wing Zero

As the only pacifist of the Gundam pilots, Quatre is unusually kind for a Gundam pilot. He is the only son of the wealthy Winner family, with 29 older sisters and a stern, yet pacifist father who disapproves of his piloting Sandrock in battle. Though Quatre himself abhors violence, he has a strong conviction to fight to protect those around him. While Quatre ruthlessness of his fellow Gundam pilots, he is much more strategically minded out of the group, has almost unlimited cash, and a troop of loyal followers called the Maguanauts at his disposal. His gentle personality and abilities quickly wins over his fellow Gundam pilots, and soon be comes the unspoken leader of the pilots. His Sandrock mobile suit, loyal army, and his fighting and strategic abilities quickly become an undeniable asset to the Gundams objectives.

To be honest, I wasn't totally into Quatre's character at first, it seemed a little hypocritical to be blowing up mobile suits while talking about pacifism. When we first meet Quatre, he is in a battle trying to sell surrender to an army that just wasn't buying. But it didn't take long for him to become one of our favorite pilots. Growing up in a highly sheltered environment with 29 sisters (most of which he either doesn't remember or hadn't met) with a staunch pacifist father could explain his kind and even lonely demeanor. However, all that changed a little when his father lost a disagreement with the military and one of his sister's gave her life to save Quatre in the incident. This enraged Quatre to the breaking point, which led to the creation of Wing Zero, the first Gundam with the Zero system.

Partially due to his anger, and falling under the control of the Zero system, Quatre started down the road to non-pacifism by systematically destroying several colonies and nearly destroying Heero and Trowa. After coming to his senses, the Zero system was something he wanted to avoid completely. Still professing pacifism, Heero and Quatre aided the defense of the Sanq Kingdom to save lives, much to the disagreement of Relena Peacecraft. With Heero's help he returned to space and the Zero system to understand his true battle potential. In the process, he was introduced in a rather aggressive fashion to Dorothy (the niece to the head of the Romefeller foundation) and her true intentions.

For some, it may take a while for Quatre to grow on some people, but when he does you'll find he is one of the coolest characters on the Gundam Wing series. He may not be an aggressive psychopath like some of the pilots, but that is part of his charm. He's what we call a realistic pacifist. Someone who despises war but understands when it is time to stand and fight for what you believe in and to protect those around you. And beyond that, he has one of the best personalities of the group.

Duo Maxwell

Hell, and Wing Zero for a short time

Duo Maxwell, boy now there is probably the coolest character in Japanese Animation. He continuously offers his friendship to the rather hostile and generally sinister Heero, eventually winning his trust through talent and persistence. Duo is probably the only pilot to truly live up to his name having an almost opposing personality. He is by no means a pacifist (depending on your definition), yet he isn't really into war. His fighting skills are almost legendary, yet he cares for everyone around him except for his enemies. He is clearly religious, growing up in a convent, yet he seems to genuinely like to fight, steal, and do whatever it takes to survive using methods that would not be sanctioned by any church. Prior to Operation Meteor, Duo was part of the spacegoing salvage organization called Sweepers. On Earth he is assisted by the Sweepers' seafaring kinsfolk. When not in the grips of war, Duo happily returns to his salvage-merchant's trade until he is needed. He is distinguished by his black wardrobe, generally priests clothing, his yard-long braided ponytail, and his huge and disarming smile.

Now with that said, here's the thing with why we appreciate Duo so much. He has the coolest Gundam (yes we know all the little numerical statistics, but we are talking looks here too, and it is the coolest looking Gundam in the series), the coolest hair (ya, we want it, but it wouldn't be fun to take care of), the coolest personality which is even better then Quatre's and Heero's, and something Heero doesn't always have: talent that is prevelant through the entire series. He also has a hero complex, finding time to save each of the Gundam's at the last second on several occasions. He is the pilot we would all like to be, and in many ways the pilots and everyone in the series strives to be in one way or the other. Duo is kinda like the "streetwise saint" of the Gundam pilots. You can't help but like him, and even when repeated guards and others were beating him up, you could still see that "You know I gotta hurt you, but I really don't want to" look in their eyes.

To be honest, there is only one thing in a negative direction we could say about Duo, and it really isn't about him. It is about the company he keeps, namely a certain girl who shall remain nameless. She was formerly a member of the Oz military in the colonies, but Duo hit her in the head with a duffle bag while trying to sneak into Oz, and she suddenly becomes a more annoying Relena and Catherine. He takes charge of this situation quite valiantly, by allowing her to do all of the chores and other things he doesn't want to do. So unlike the other two, her fascination with him is put to good use. We're sure she might have had an origional thought of her own, but we are positive it died of loneliness. There are plenty of Gundam sites out there that will give you all the information on this little wonder, we just aren't one of em. Our true feelings for her can be best summed up with a picture we did of what we felt should have been shoved in the barrel of the Libra stations beam cannon. It wasn't the Peacemalian, it was more this person's rear-end because not only was it more amusing, it would also be more effective. Other then that, the character of Duo is Gundam perfection in it's finest state.

Treize Khushrenada

There are other screen shots with captions there, and they are hilarious.

It is definitely worth checking out.

Treize is the oldest of the characters in the Gundam Wing series, he is also the most potentially sinister of the group. Not only did he start the war between the Alliance Military and Oz, he also created the Epyon, and instigated the second war between White Tiger and the Earth. As the ringleader for most of the battles that take place in the Wing saga, he generally comes of as a cold, calculated psychopath; instead of the posh, aristocrat he was billed to be. Either way, for the most part he doesn't seem to really care about anyone or anything then war and his military personnel.

The two biggest changes to everyone's lives Treize took place with Lady Un and the creation of the Epyon. With Lady Une, she had such an astounding response to Treize's personality that her own split into the "evil" Lady Une and Amy, her more dignified and diplomatic side. Fortunately for her, the two eventually merged and she ended up playing a vital role in not only saving Treize, but the universe as well. The Epyon, however, is another matter altogether. Granted, until the Zero system is mastered, it can be a little hard to handle, but nothing like the system in the Epyon. The system has the ability to show it's pilot the path they should follow for their future. And the future Epyon showed it's intended pilot, Zechs Merquise, was one of destruction and war. From this future and with the aid of the White Tiger organization, Zechs started a war with the Earth which nearly destroyed both the Earth and the colonies. His plans were to be completed by the space station Libra, a powerful and oddly shaped station created by the same scientists responsible for the Gundams. These plans were stopped by the 5 pilots, with help from the scientists that created the Gundams and the Libra.

In a moment of military leadership, Treize led the Earth's forces under his command with the new Tallgeese 2 during the battle with the Libra and White Tiger. His involvement was short-lived however, after falling prey to a young pilot named Chang Wufei with his Altron Gundam. We have our own standing on the fight between Wufei and Treize, and hopefully the non-dubbed version had a better battle (quite frankly it seemed like a cop out). But his demised (as planned) sparked a return to pacifism led by Lady Une.

By the way, the screen shot with Zechs and Treize at the top has a very special place in our hearts. It was used not only as a shot for introduction purposes, but in the more authentic Wing series, it was placed in a rather odd spot. Ever since it has been a rather humorous inside joke. Thought we would mention it wasn't a mistake for this screen shot to be here

Gundam: Tallgeese 1 and 3; Epyon

Originally born Milliardo Peacecraft, Zechs Merquise was the son and considered to be heir to the Peacecraft legacy. His only surviving family, Relena Dorlan/Peacecraft, eventually took control over the Peacecraft's monarchy of the Sanq Kingdom. Given her more adamant beliefs in pacifism and his own glorified participation in war, Zechs felt this would be the choice more appreciated by the Peacecraft ancestry. As Zechs he wears a mask to conceal his identity and shame for his military prowess and inability to save his family's country. WIthin Oz he is referred to as the "Lightning Baron" for his military prowess. He regards Heero and the other pilots as a worthy adversaries, but feels a very close, battle founded bond with Heero. Heero appears to feel the same towards Zechs, and they attempt to fight to the death at every introduction.

At great deal has been said about Mili, and most of it is true. We are quite fond of the statement, "How could you be intimidated by a guy with long platinum, blond hair, wearing an aluminum helmet that looks like a birds beak, and white stretch pants that look like he should break into a rendition of Swan Lake." With that said, Zechs is quite possibly the greatest military mind within Oz or any of the other military organizations involved. Taking second only to Treize and the preceding Lt. Lucrecia Noin, the latter having a great fondness for Zechs in many ways for this reason alone. He is a bold risk taker, as proven by taking the helm of the first Tallgeese. The prototype to the 5 Gundams, this mobile suit is almost more dangerous to the pilot then to it's opponents. After the Tallgeese had been rebuilt, it killed one test pilot, and nearly

killed another and Zechs himself.

Given his military prowess, Treize designed and built the latest Gundam, the Epyon. A fierce Gundam with no projectile weaponry, it was built mainly for fencing. The Epyon has an attached and updated beam sword, an energy whip, designed aerodynamically for speed, and can be converted into a mobile jet like Wing and WIng Zero. Treize also equipped the Epyon with the Zero system, which he tested first on Heero Yuy in a slightly psychotic, Tales from the Crypt fashion. Given the different features within the Epyon, Heero reaction was not very positive, making him very content to return to Wing Zero. Once Zechs received his gift, the future the Zero system showed him turned him against the Earth, and his better judgment. This path led him to once again fight Heero to what seemed to be his death. Pardon the pun, but somehow, with someone as talented as Zechs, we have a feeling his demise will be short

Relena Peacecraft

Hair color: Light brown

Relena is the pampered daughter of Earth Alliance Prime Minister Dorlan, and the picture of perfection in her private school. However, she dreams of something more then her pre-planned existence, and her accidental encounter with Gundam pilot Heero Yuy soon provides exactly the kind of thrills and excitement she had been looking for. It even gave her a chance to try her hand at becoming a full time stalker, as she proved to be quite talented with her stalking of Heero Yuy. However, with the attempted assassination of her father by Oz, on his death-bed Prime Minister Dorlan reveals to Relena that she was adopted. In truth, she is the only surviving daughter of the Peacecraft legacy. Relena chooses to continue the pacifist work of her true family, and becomes the leading advocate for peace in an increasingly chaotic world, much to the general dismay of those around her.

We can't say that we have always liked Relena, in fact, we thought she was nothing more than a pacifism spouting, stalker who really needed to leave Heero alone. She doesn't fly one single mobile suit in the entire series, and generally was spending more time trying to find Heero then some of the other things she should have been doing. But she is a character that can grow on you, if you let her. Either way the story would lack a lot of the direction it had without her in the series, so even though she is not a pilot, she is still a vital part of the Gundam Universe. That and it is kinda entertaining to watch her ramble on about giving peace a chance while mobile suits are shooting at her. And the scenes with her and Dorothy the back stabbing, brownoser are just as fun. What's with those eyebrows anyway? It's like they can move on their own. See we told you some of the characters would get honorable mention.
